Kanye West Debuts New Music Video on 66 Buildings Worldwide

One day before Kanye West was set to debut tracks from his upcoming album on Saturday Night Live, he surprised his fans all over the world when he projected a video of his new song “New Slaves” on 66 buildings in North America, Europe, and Australia.

RyanSeacrest.com was on-hand at the installment in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday night. There were also pop-ups in Beverly Hills and Hollywood in the L.A. area, as well as locations in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over the weekend, there are also plans to debut the song on buildings in Paris, Sydney, and London. His website has all the locations marked in red on a world map.
The video is simple: just a black-and-white clip of Kanye rapping into the camera.
But his message is pretty complex. “My mama was raised in the era when clean water was only served to the fairer skin,” he raps at the beginning of “New Slaves.” Kanye then touches on what sounds like a blast against the media’s fascination with his relationship with Kim Kardashian.
“I’ll move my country out of the family, so you can’t see where I stay,” he says. “So go and grab the reporters, so I can smash they recorders.”
