Federal Government is ready to receive

prisoners from UK

ABUJA —The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to receive Nigerians who are serving various jail terms in the United Kingdom, UK, prisons. Comptroller-General of Nigeria Prisons Service, Dr Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, stated this, yesterday, in Abuja when the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd) and officials of the UK Embassy in Nigeria went on an
inspection visit to Kuje Medium Security Prisons. “Our prisons are ready. We are ready to receive the prisoners anytime they are brought back,” Ekpendu assured, declining to give detail. Earlier, Dambazau refuted speculation that government was concentrating on developing Kuje Prisons as it normally hosts high-profile inmates. According to him, “concentration is not just on Kuje prisons but some prisons in other states, including the Kirikiri prisons. “We are hoping that by the time the budget is signed and we get our releases, we are going to embark on renovation of some prisons, capacity building and reinforcement of security.”
