Get A First Look At The New Selena x MAC Makeup Line

The highly anticipated MAC x Selena collaboration is almost here. Today the cosmetics brand released the first imagery (below) of one of the products that will be included, and the Instagram photo already has nearly 100,000 likes.

Almost a year has passed since the brand first announced the big news, but now the company is sharing even more info. Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla is working closely with MAC Cosmetics to help curate the exciting collection. “I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and off stage,” Quintanilla explained in a statement.

The line includes at least one deep red lipstick that reminds us of the iconic singer’s signature look. The name of the shade is “Como La Flor,” which is also the title of a single from Selena’s 1992 album Entre a Mi Mundo. And the packaging is just as vibrant with a bold purple bullet stamped with the star’s autograph. MAC has collaborated with several stars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and even Marilyn Monroe in the past, so it was just as exciting to find out they would honor Selena with her own line 21 years after her death (in 1995, the Latin star was murdered by her fan club president Yolanda Saldívar).  

The MAC collection “just shows the love her fan base has even though she’s gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she’s passed,” Quintanilla said. “It’s a great honor to have MAC collaborate with Selena’s name and her fans — FOR her fans.” This collection is sure to sell out as eager shoppers are already requesting pre-order options. But we’ll all have to wait patiently to shop the full collection because the release date is set for October 2016.
